Services

The Synagogue for the Arts is, at its heart, a warm spiritual experience. We have a full schedule of traditional daily minyanim and Shabbat and holiday services.

SFTA Sanctuary, click to enlargeIn addtion to traditional Shabbat, we also have periodic Community Shabbat services, which are participatory traditional services in which the members of the congregation take full responsibility, including leading the service, Torah reading and giving the d'var Torah (interpretive talk or sermon). We have occasional mixed-seating Family Services in the reception hall as part of an extended shabbat and holiday experience.

Our services have Synagogue for the Art's unique stamp; for example the women carry the Torah through the women's side of the sanctuary.

We welcome people of all levels of knowledge and familiarity to our services. The Synagogue has transliterated prayer books, and people will be glad to help you find your place. Invest a few months in coming to services and you will soon be able to help newcomers yourself. The "regulars" at the morning minyan expect and support people those seeking a place to say Kaddish.

We offer children's services, and special Learners Services on holidays. The Women's Group holds Women's Services from time to time, as well.

To participate in Community Shabbat, contact Gail Nalven, Education Director at educator@synagogueforthearts.org or call the synagogue at 212-966-7141 for information.
