Adult Education

Most Monday nights our Adult Bat Mitzvah class is held at 7pm.  We start with a 1/2 hour of beginner's Hebrew and then continue with an hour of study and conversation on various Jewish studies topics including: holidays, lifecycle events, Jewish literature, prayer, and more. All welcome.

Tuesday nights are the time for Tanakh (Hebrew scriptures) study at
Synagogue for the Arts. We've met regularly for more than 14 years! This
year we completed the Book of Ezra and are now studying Nechemia. Every
time we finish a book we have a siyyum (finishing celebration at the
Synagogue or at a restaurant).

The class is for any level and meets most Tuesdays at 6 P.M. (to
confirm scheduling, call the office at 212-966-7141). Feel free to jump
in!

Our congregation frequently explores new areas of text and culture,
and new adult education programs are in the works. We have two
world-renowned scholars-in-residence providing unique opportunities for
learning: Dr. Freema Gottlieb, a member of Synagogue for the Arts, is an
author and teacher of midrash and bible. Dr. Aaron Demsky is the Bar
Ilan biblical historian. Each gave talks in spring 2006 and will be addressing us again next year.

Each year on Shabbat T'lamdeini the Drisha Institute sends a woman
scholar to address the congregation. The congregation works with the
cultural arm of the Israel consulate to present scholars and relevant
personalities at the Synagogue.
